Removal
Raise the car, see section "Lifting a car".
Spray the nut at the clamp-type clamp between the middle and subsequent mufflers with a rust remover. Leave the product for a while to show its effect.
Unscrew the clamp, pull the subsequent muffler out of the rubber support forward. If there is not enough space, unscrew the rubber bracket from the console.
Turning the subsequent muffler in different directions, disconnect it from the middle muffler.
If the subsequent muffler is not removed, various methods can be used to release it. Saw the exhaust pipe at a distance of about 10 cm behind the clamp. Then saw the rest of the pipe lengthwise and cut it out with a hammer and chisel. If you have a welding torch, heat up the corresponding area.
Caution: Protect the underbody with asbestos. Make sure that neither the fuel lines nor the fuel tank (plastic) did not heat up.
Installation
Check the condition of the tie bolt and nut, as well as the rubber bracket, and replace the parts if necessary.
Insert the new subsequent muffler into the rubber bracket from the front.
Put on the clamp and connect the exhaust pipes. Make sure that the dimension "a" = 5 mm is maintained, see above.
Note: To facilitate subsequent removal, lubricate the thread of the tie bolt and the ends of the pipes to be crimped with high-temperature paste.
Align the subsequent muffler, while ensuring sufficient distance to the underbody. In models with 16-valve engines, the rear suspension of the subsequent muffler should protrude from the rubber bracket by 10 mm, see Figure 26-588.
Tighten the clamp type clamp.
