The oxygen sensor is used to regulate the composition of exhaust gases and is installed on cars with a regulated catalytic converter. It is screwed into the catalytic converter housing or into the exhaust pipe. Checking the oxygen sensor is described in Chapter "Injection system of gasoline engines".
Removal
Disconnect the electrical plug connector.
Depending on the model, unscrew the oxygen sensor from the outlet pipe or catalytic converter.
Installation

Three different oxygen sensors are used.
Caution: When replacing the oxygen sensor, use only a new sensor of the same design.
- 1 - unheated sensor (with a large number of splines -A-).
- 2 - heated sensor (with holes -B-).
- 3 - heated sensor (with a small number of splines -C-).
Treat only the sensor thread with special VAG G5 grease. The grease should not get on the pins or holes of the sensor head. If possible, do not touch the working surface of the new sensor, avoid contamination.
Screw in the oxygen sensor with a torque of 50 Nm.
Connect the plug to the sensor.
