Only when using expansion wedges
If it is necessary to loosen the removed pressure spring (for attaching the front exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold) or to loosen the new spring for installation, it is necessary to perform installation using a vice, as shown below.
Spring weakening
Place the pressure spring on the vice so that the expansion wedge with the entry part facing upwards and its back side is located between the vice jaws, which are opened approximately 15 mm.
Using a plastic hammer, carefully tap the expansion wedge downwards.

Place the pressure spring on the vice as shown in the figure.
Drive the long expansion wedge VAG 3140/1 or HAZET2586-1 into the spring until it stops. The jaws of the vice are opened by approximately 15 mm.
Note: If the pressure spring cannot be installed due to insufficient space for the long expansion wedge in the installation area, drive in the short expansion wedge 3140/2 or HAZET 2586-2 next to the long one. Then turn the pressure spring over and carefully knock out the long wedge, leaving the short wedge in the spring.
