Petrol engines
Be sure to use unleaded gasoline only.
If leaded gasoline was filled by mistake, the exhaust pipe before the catalytic converter and the catalytic converter itself must be replaced. Fill the fuel tank at least twice with unleaded gasoline before installing new parts.
Do not start the engine by pushing or towing. Once in the catalyst, unburned fuel could lead to overheating and destruction of the catalyst during a flash. If necessary, start the engine from the battery of another vehicle.
Frequent cold starts following one another must be avoided, otherwise unburned fuel accumulates in the catalyst, which, when heated, then burns rapidly and damages the catalyst.
If you have difficulty starting, do not keep the starter turned on uselessly for a long time. When starting, fuel is constantly injected. Determine the cause of the malfunction and eliminate.
If ignition faults occur, when identifying the fault, fuel must be prevented from being injected when the engine is started. To do this, you must remove the injection system control relay or the fuel pump relay.
Do not perform any spark test with the spark plug tips removed.
It is impossible to carry out any comparative assessments of the operation of the cylinders by turning off the ignition of one cylinder. When the ignition of one cylinder is turned off - also through the engine test stand - unburned fuel enters the catalyst.
If misfiring occurs, avoid high engine speeds and repair the fault immediately.
Gasoline and diesel engines
Do not park your vehicle over dry leaves and grass. The exhaust system in the catalyst area is very hot and radiates heat even after the engine has stopped.
When filling and topping up oil, pay particular attention to ensure that the maximum permissible oil level is never exceeded. Otherwise, as a result of incomplete combustion, excess oil enters the catalyst and can damage the noble metal or completely destroy the catalyst.
