Vehicle identification (VW Transporter T4)

The engine number and letter designation are stamped on the cylinder block above the oil filter:

• 5 - cylinder petrol engine - on the cylinder block between cylinders 2 and 3;
• 4 - cylinder diesel engine - on the engine block between the high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP) and the vacuum pump;
• 5 - cylinder diesel engine - on the cylinder block next to the high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP). The engine letter designation is stamped on top of the intake manifold.

Attention! Some engines have an additional sticker with the engine number and letter designations located on the top of the toothed belt guard.

The chassis number is located on the outside right side under the windshield.

1. Designation of the world manufacturer: WV2=VWAG.

2. Additional designation (except for USA models).

3. 2-digit abbreviated type designation from the first two digits of the official type designation: 70=VWT4.

4. Additional designation.

5. Indication of the year of construction of the model: M=1991, N=1992, etc.

6. Production locations within the VW Group: H – Hanover, W – Wolfsburg, E – Emden, A – Ingolstadt, N – Neckarsulm, K – Osnabrück, B – Brussels.

7. Current numbering: counting starts from 000001 from the year of model production.
