Car without an inflatable airbag
Removal
Remove the lid with your hands, see chapter "Devices".
Disconnect the electrical wires for the sound signal from the lid.
Turn the steering wheel and set the wheels to the straight ahead position.
Loosen the fastening nut and remove it together with the washer. A replacement socket head SW 24 with an extension is required for loosening.
Use paint or a scriber to mark the relative positions of the steering wheel and steering shaft.
Remove the steering wheel from the steering shaft.
Installation
Note: Since 1/89, cars are equipped with a steering wheel with modified internal splines. Thanks to the smaller splines, it is possible to better adjust the steering wheel. To install a new steering wheel on previously produced cars, it is necessary to fasten the adapter sleeve with splines to the steering column using the steering wheel nut (spare part). In this case, tighten the nut to the end of the thread. Then unscrew the nut, place a 3 mm thick spacer washer on the bushing and fully tighten the steering wheel nut.
Place the steering wheel on the steering shaft according to the marks.
Caution: Before installation, check whether the turn signal switch lever is in the middle position, otherwise the return cam may be damaged.
Place the spacer washer.
Tighten the new self-locking hex nut to 50 Nm.
Connect the electrical wires.
After installation, perform a test drive. When driving straight, the steering wheel spoke should be vertical, otherwise the steering wheel should be replanted.
Press the lid into place and secure it.

Removal
Turn the steering wheel and set the wheels to the straight ahead position.
Remove the airbag assembly, see above.
Remove the trim under the switch on the steering column.

Caution: Keep the removed steering wheel in the installation position and slightly turn the return ring so that the wire (arrow) points downwards. In this position, the ring is fixed and prevented from turning. If you do not pay attention to this, uncontrolled turning of the ring during further operation of the car may lead to twisting and destruction of the coil spring of the return ring.
Installation
Place the steering wheel on the steering shaft according to the marks.
Caution: Before installation, check whether the turn signal switch lever is in the middle position.
Tighten the hex nut to a torque of 50 Nm.
Connect the airbag connector under the steering wheel.
Install the trim under the switch on the steering column and ensure that the return ring wire connector is located in the recess in the trim.
Install the airbag assembly, see above.
Perform a test drive. When driving straight, the steering wheel spoke should be vertical.
If the steering wheel is positioned at an angle, then move it accordingly. If necessary, check the toe-in of the front wheels, see below.
Check the horn and automatic return to neutral position of the turn signal switch.
