Checking the tightness of the steering drive (VW Passat B3)

If there is no oil in the expansion tank, be sure to check the steering for leaks.

Start the engine and let it idle.

Turn the steering wheel in both directions until it stops and hold it in this position for a short time. This creates the greatest pressure in the pipes.

In this position, visually check the following components for leaks:

• 1. Rotary piston valve.
• 2. Sealing the toothed rack. To do this, release the clamps of the corrugated cover and move it to the side.
• 3. Vane pump.
• 4. Pipeline connections.
