Checking the tightness of the cooling system (VW Golf 1)

Are the hoses at the radiator and engine sealed, as well as the thinner hoses leading to the heating system or oil cooler?

Are there any cracks in the hoses? Replace if necessary.

Are the hose clamp screws tight?

Rusted hose clamps can suddenly become loose while driving and under full cooling system pressure. They must be replaced!

The workshop checks the tightness of the cooling system with a special hand-held air pump, which has a pressure gauge.

This device is installed in the opening of the expansion tank and the pressure is pumped up to 1 bar (increase by 1 bar).

If the pressure does not drop within 1-2 minutes, the cooling system is sealed.
