Coolant loss is a sign of a malfunction or defect. Coolant is not consumed and cannot evaporate in a closed cooling system. What to do in case of loss of coolant? See section "Checking the tightness of the cooling system".
If the engine is hot, and at this time the cap of the expansion tank is opened, then this is dangerous, as you can get burned. Therefore, be extremely careful.
The cork must be taken with a mitten or through a rag. Slowly, turning 1 turn, allow excess pressure to escape. Then just open the plug completely.
If only water is poured, which is undesirable. then the antifreeze is gradually diluted. Concentrate must be added to maintain freezing point.
Do not exceed the upper mark. When heated, the coolant expands, and the excess can pour out of the system.
Do not add cold fluid if there is a significant loss when the engine is hot. Because due to sudden "ice shower" the cylinder head may warp or the engine block may crack.
