Radiator — design description (VW Golf 1)

The radiator has plastic tanks, between them - aluminum fins and tubes. Thin-walled tubes are connections between the left and right tanks of the radiator. To increase the cooling surface, horizontal honeycomb fins are also placed between the tubes. If there is a suspicion that the radiator is not airtight, let the workshop check it. If an obvious defect is found, you can remove the radiator yourself and deliver it to the workshop.

Note: At sub-zero temperatures, a radiator insulation is used. As a result, the air flow through the radiator is significantly reduced. However, this carries a risk: when driving on the highway with a full load, the amount of cooling air may be too small, causing the engine to overheat. Therefore, when driving on long highways, the insulation must be removed as soon as the temperature rises above 0 degrees Celsius (make a note on your dashboard to remember this).
