Engines with contact ignition system
Periodically check the gap between the breaker contacts and the cleanliness of their working surface. The gap between the contacts should be 0.45 mm. Correct clearance adjustment is only possible using a device for measuring the cam angle of the distributor breaker.
Engines with non-contact ignition system
The electronic ignition system does not require any maintenance in operation.
Spark plug
Replace spark plugs every 15,000 km.
Unscrew the spark plugs only with a spark plug wrench so as not to damage the porcelain insulator. The gap between the electrodes of the candles can only be adjusted by bending «mass» electrode.
Locking device for center differential and rear axle differential
Four-wheel drive car model «Passan Variant Synchro» has a device that blocks either only the center differential located in the wheel drive from the gearbox side, or simultaneously the center differential and the rear axle differential.
The device is turned on by a handle located at the bottom of the instrument panel to the right of the steering column. Under the handle are the control lamps of the device. The handle has the following positions:
- first fixed position: the center differential is blocked, the upper control lamp lights up;
- second fixed position: the center differential and rear axle differential are blocked, the lower control lamp lights up.
Note. With a significant difference in wheel speeds, the process of locking and unlocking the differential may be delayed.
On vehicles with an anti-lock brake system, this system is turned off when the differentials are locked, which causes the corresponding warning lamp to light up (see «Brake system»),
Rules for using the differential lock device
When driving on dry road surfaces, it is not recommended to turn on the locking device, as this does not provide any benefits and only leads to increased tire wear when cornering.
When driving on a wet road surface, it is forbidden to engage the rear axle differential lock, and the center differential lock can only be performed when driving at a moderate speed, while avoiding high speeds.
On slippery road surfaces, after engaging the center differential lock, drive only at low speed. Under no circumstances brake hard.
The rear axle differential lock is allowed only for the time necessary to bring the car out of any difficult position (for example, when jamming or when it is possible).
On vehicles with anti-lock brakes, the differential lock should only be used to assist starting.
