Note. If the friction lining of one of the pads is worn down to the minimum allowable thickness, both pairs of brake pads must be replaced simultaneously. Use only pads of the brand prescribed by the manufacturer.
Removing
Remove brake drum (see section «Rear suspension»).
Remove the lock washers 1 of the shoe spring guides with pliers.
Remove brake pads 2 from lower support by hand.
Remove lower return spring 3.
Disconnect the parking brake cable 4 from the lever 5.
Disconnect the tension spring 6 with pliers from the lever 7 of the device for automatically adjusting the gap between the shoes and the drum. Unfasten the upper coupling spring 8 of the shoes.
Remove brake pads.
Clamp the expansion bar 9 of the parking brake drive in a vice together with the pressure brake shoe and disconnect the buffer spring 10.
Clamp the pistons of the wheel cylinder with special pliers or fix them with wire.
Installation
Install new brake pads on the brake shield.
Connect the buffer spring 10 and install the clamping brake shoe on the expansion bar 9 of the shoes.
Install lever 7 with the protrusion towards the shield of the brake mechanism.
Install the squeezing brake shoe with lever 5 of the parking brake actuator on the expanding bar.
Connect the upper return spring 8.
Connect the cable to the parking brake lever.
Install the brake pads on the pistons of the wheel cylinder.
Install the brake pads on the lower support.
Connect tension spring 6 to lever 7.
Install the spring guides and shoe lock washers.
Install the drum and adjust the clearance in the wheel bearings, as indicated in the section «Rear suspension».
Press the brake pedal once to failure to automatically set the gap between the pads and the drum.
Removal and installation of the wheel cylinder
Remove brake pads as above.
Disconnect the brake hose from the wheel cylinder bleeder.
Loosen the wheel cylinder mounting bolts and remove the cylinder.
Clean parts and check their condition. Replace damaged or worn parts.
Install the wheel cylinder.
Install and tighten cylinder bolts.
Connect the brake hose to the cylinder bleeder port.
Install brake pads and drum.
Bleed hydraulic brakes.
Rear wheel brake:
1 - lock washers of the guide springs of the pads;
2 - brake pads;
3 - lower coupling spring;
4 - parking brake cable;
5 - parking brake lever;
6 - tension spring of the device for automatic adjustment of the gap between the shoes and the drum;
7 - lever for automatic clearance adjustment;
8 - upper coupling spring;
9 - expanding bar;
10 - buffer spring.
Rear wheel brake parts:
1 - brake shield;
2 - fitting for pumping the hydraulic drive;
3 - wheel cylinder;
4 - cylinder piston;
5 - protective cap and cuff;
6 - spring;
7 - expanding bar;
8 - brake pads;
9 - guide spring;
10 - a drum made integral with the wheel hub.
