Removing
When removing, mark the brake pads suitable for further use. They must be installed back in the same places, otherwise there will be an uneven distribution of braking forces between the wheels!
Note: Do not disconnect connectors for parking brake actuators. Do not apply the parking brake.
Remove wheels. Parking brake pistons must be sunk (set to start position) using -VAS 5051-. Before installing the pistons in their original position, it is necessary to pump out the brake fluid from the compensation tank. If the brake fluid is topped up as the brake pads wear, this will help to avoid fluid leaks and the resulting damage. Connect tester -VAS 5051- and select function. Select with this "Electromechanical parking brake" and the function.Extend and initialize the pistons of the parking brake actuator. Set pistons with -VAS 5051- to starting position. After that, you can unscrew the mounting bolts from the brake caliper, keeping the guide from turning. Remove the caliper from the brake caliper.
Note: Performing the operation 'Initial positioning of pistons' with -VAS 5051- often does not move the pistons themselves (however, it is necessary to do so). The fact is that the running nut slides freely in the piston cavity, as a result, it can only push, but not move the piston back. When performing this operation, only the screw is moved back together with the running nut (they move back inside the piston).
Caution: Preliminarily carry out the operation with -MS 5051- "Installing the pistons in the initial position".
Then finally move the piston back with special tool -T10145-. Suspend the brake caliper with a wire so that the brake hose is unloaded and cannot be damaged. Remove brake pads and brake pad retainers -arrows-.
Thoroughly clean the bearing surfaces for the brake pads on the brake caliper, remove any corrosion products. Clean the caliper. Use only alcohol to clean the brake caliper.
Installation
Position brake shoe holders and brake shoes -arrows- on brake caliper. When doing so, make sure that the brake pads are in the correct position in the holders -arrows-.
Secure the brake caliper with new self-locking bolts. The repair kit contains four self-locking bolts that must be used. After the pistons have been extended with -VAS 5051-, the basic setting of the brake system must also be carried out. Carry out basic setting of brake system with -VAS 5051-. Install wheels. After replacing the pads, check the brake fluid level.
Tightening torque: hex head bolt, brake caliper to caliper, use only new bolts - 35 Nm.
