Air filter — removal, installation and disassembly (VW Golf 5)

Caution: Do not loosen or tighten self-locking bolts with an electric screwdriver, as this may damage the threads on the air duct or on the bottom of the air filter housing.


5.0. Air filter. Cars with a 1.4-liter VSA gasoline engine

5.0. Air filter. Cars with a 1.4-liter VSA gasoline engine
1 - lower part of the air filter housing. The lower and upper parts of the air filter housing form the upper protective cover of the engine. To dismantle, disconnect the hose from the check valve, and then remove the protective cover by releasing it from the fasteners and pushing it upwards.
2 - sealing gasket. Observe the installation position. If damaged, the cover should be replaced with a new one
3 - replaceable filter element
4 - upper part of the air filter 5 - rubber bushing
6 - bolts. Tightening torque 3 Nm.
7 - sealing ring. Check the tightness of the fit, and if damaged, replace with a new one
8 - intake pipe with regulating valve
9 - lid

6 - O-ring. Should be replaced after each dismantling
7 - lower part of the air filter housing. The lower and upper parts of the air filter housing form the upper protective cover of the engine. When removing, you should release the cover from the four fasteners at the corners, and then remove it from the throttle body by pushing it upwards
8 - ventilation hose. From the camshaft housing 9 - bolts. Tightening torque 3 Nm.

7 - pump mount
8 - bracket
9 - bolt. Tightening torque 2 Nm
10 - bolt. Tightening torque 8 Nm
11 - bolt. Tightening torque 3 Nm
12 - Air filter cover
13 - replaceable filter element
14 - Air filter housing
15 - sealing ring
16 - intake air temperature sensor 2
17 - bolt. Tightening torque 2 Nm
18 - accumulation chamber
19 - nut. Tightening torque 20 Nm
20 - clamp
21 - air duct
22 - bolt. Tightening torque 2 Nm
23 - clamping nut
31 - clamp
32 - air intake
33 - bolt. Tightening torque 3 Nm
34 - Air mass flow meter
35 - O-ring seal round section
36 - air duct
37 - Low pressure hose of the EGR valve
Attention! A - air filter outlet. Positions 5-7 apply only to 2.0 liter gasoline engines, and positions 31-37 - only to diesel engines. The air filter for a 1.6 liter gasoline engine is identical, but does not have positions 34-35.

2 - air mass flow meter
3 - O-ring. Should be replaced if damaged
4 - bolt. Tightening torque 8 Nm
5 - air filter cover
6 - bolt. Tightening torque 8 Nm
7 - low pressure hose of the electromagnetic valve
8 - replaceable filter element
9 - air duct near the upper front cross member
10 - Air filter housing
11 - nut. Tightening torque 10 Nm
