Attention! The detailed procedure for removing and installing the cylinder head cover and the cylinder head is not specified in this chapter. Only the main points concerning their replacement are given. Cylinder head cover.
1. Apply a drop of sealant, such as VW-AMV 1 74 004 01, to both sides of the sealing surfaces of the front and rear camshaft/cylinder head covers before installing the cylinder head cover (the drop of sealant should be approximately 5 mm in diameter) (see arrows in the illustration).

2. When removing the cylinder head cover, loosen its mounting bolts in sequence from 13 to 1 (see illustration).

When removing, loosening the tightening and unscrewing the bolts is performed in sequence from 10 to 1.
3. Screw in and tighten the cylinder head bolts after installing it in sequence from I to 10 in four passes (see illustration).
- 1st pass. I tighten the bolts gay in the specified sequence with a force of 35 Nm.
- 2nd pass. Tightening of bolts is performed with a force of 60 Nm.
- 3rd pass. The bolts are turned by 90° with a wrench (1/4 turn).
- 4th pass. The bolts are turned by 90° with a wrench(1/4 turn).
