Attention! A detailed procedure for removing and installing the cylinder head cover and block head is not specified in this chapter. Only the main points regarding their replacement are given. Cylinder head cover.
1. Before installing the cylinder head cover, apply a drop of sealant to both sides of the sealing surfaces of the front and rear covers of the camshaft bearings / cylinder head, for example, VW-AMV 1 74 004 01 (a drop of sealant in diameter should be approximately 5 mm) (see arrows in illustration).
2. When removing the cylinder head cover, loosen the bolts of its fastening in the sequence from 13 to I (see illustration).

When removing, loosen and unscrew the bolts in sequence from 10 to 1.
3. Screw in and tighten the cylinder head bolts after installing it in sequence from I to 10 in four passes (see illustration).
- 1st pass. I tighten the bolts in the specified sequence with a force of 35 Nm.
- 2nd pass. The bolts are tightened with a force of 60 Nm.
- 3rd pass. The bolts are turned with a wrench by 90° (1/4 turn).
- 4th pass. The bolts are turned with a wrench by 90° (1/4 turn).
