Using a spanner to rotate the timing belt tensioner roller on the eccentric on the 1.6-I engine

Install and tension the timing belt on a cold engine.
Execution order
1. Install the timing belt onto the crankshaft and water pump pulleys.
Warning: When reinstalling the timing belt, install it so that the arrow on the belt, which was marked before removing the belt, matches the direction of rotation of the engine pulleys. If the timing belt rotates in the opposite direction after installation, cracks may occur in the belt and engine damage may occur.
2. Check that the camshaft and crankshaft pulley marks are aligned with the pointers.
3. Replace and bolt the lower timing belt cover.
4. Install the crankshaft pulley and secure it with the bolts, tightening them to a torque of 25 Nm. Keep in mind that the pulley can only be installed in one position.
5. Place the timing belt on the camshaft pulley.
Engine 1.6-I
6. Check the mounting position of the tension roller. Locking tab (indicated by the arrow) must be in the recess in the cylinder head. Otherwise, turn the tension roller holder in the appropriate direction.
7. Use a wrench to turn the tension roller so that the pointer aligns with the timing mark (see picture Using a spanner to rotate the timing belt tensioner roller on the eccentric on the 1.6-I engine). In this position, tighten the tension roller mounting nut to a torque of 20 Nm.
8. Using the crankshaft pulley mounting bolt, rotate the engine crankshaft clockwise two full turns and check that all timing marks are aligned with the pointers. Check that the timing mark of the timing belt tensioner is aligned with the pointer.
Engines 1.8-I
9. Remove the tension roller lock and unscrew the set screw. The pressure piston and tension element will automatically tension the timing belt.
All engines
10. Rotate the engine crankshaft two full turns clockwise and check that all timing marks are aligned with the pointers. If not, remove the timing belt and reinstall it.
11. Install the upper timing belt cover.
12. Tighten the bolts securing the right support bracket to the engine to a torque of 45 Nm.
13. Using new bolts, secure the bracket to the right support and body and tighten the bolts to the specified torque:
- support to the body: 40 Nm + turn further by 90°;
- engine support: 60 Nm + turn further by 90°.
14. Remove the engine support fixture.
15. Install the V-belt tensioner element and secure it with the bolt, tightening it to a torque of 25 Nm.
16. install the V-belt.
17. Reinstall the expansion tank and power steering fluid reservoir.
