Water pump mounting elements on a 1.4-I petrol engine

Removal
1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system.
2. Remove the poly V-belt.

3. Unscrew the three Allen key bolts and remove the poly V-belt tensioner mechanism.
Engines 1.6/ 1.8-I
4. Set the engine crankshaft to a position where the piston of the first cylinder is at the top dead center in the compression stroke. Loosen the tension of the toothed drive belts and remove them from the camshaft and water pump pulleys.
Warning: Use a rag to protect the timing belt located under the water pump.

5. Remove the main timing belt.
6. Unscrew the bolt (2) securing the guide roller (1) (see figure Water pump fastening elements on a 1.4-I petrol engine).
7. Unscrew the bolt (7) securing the bracket (6), then unscrew the four bolts (5) securing the water pump. Remove the sealing ring from the water pump.

8. Remove the bolts (1 and 5) securing the rear cover (2) of the timing belt (see picture Water pump engine 1.6-I).
Engines 1.6/ 1.8-I
9. Remove the three bolts securing the water pump and carefully remove it from the engine. Remove the sealing ring from the water pump.
10. Remove the cloth that protects the timing belt from coolant.
Installation
1. Clean the surface to install the sealing ring.
2. Lubricate the new O-ring with fresh coolant and install it in place.

3. Install the water pump. When installing the water pump on all engines except the 1.4-I engine, the plug in the pump housing must be at the bottom.
4. Secure the water pump with three screws and tighten them to a torque of 15 Nm (1.4-I engine – 20 Nm).

5. Install the rear timing belt cover and secure it with the bolt (1), tightening it to a torque of 20 Nm (see picture Water pump engine 1.6-I).
Engine 1.4-I
6. Install the guide roller holder and secure it with the bolt (2), tightening it to a torque of 25 Nm (see figure Water pump fastening elements on a 1.4-I petrol engine).
7. Install the timing belts.

8. Install and bolt the poly V-belt tensioner, tightening the bolts to a torque of 25 Nm.
9. Install the poly V-belt.
10. Fill the engine cooling system with coolant.
