Water Pump — removal and installation (2.4l engine models) (VW Lt 28)

Note: The water pump can be removed from the engine while it is in the vehicle, but the fan and shroud, alternator drive belt, and power steering pump belt must be removed first (if any). The timing belt must be removed from the camshaft sprocket, and in order to remove the rear timing belt flap, you will also need to remove the camshaft sprocket (for details, see. in the section dedicated to removing the engine).


30. To remove the timing belt, you will have to loosen the water pump mounting bolts. Unscrew these bolts completely (see photo).

31. Raise the timing belt enough to allow the pump to be removed from its housing.

32. The pump cannot be repaired and in case of malfunction must be replaced as an assembly.

33. Installation of the water pump is carried out in reverse order. Replace the seal with a new one (see photo).

34. If the engine is still on the car, install the removed parts (see the relevant sections).
