Removal and installation a water pump on a 5-cylinder gasoline engine (VW Golf 4)

Unscrewing the water pump belt pulley on the 2.3-I-VR5 engine

• 1 - pulley mounting bolts;
• 2 - belt pulley;
• 3787 - special device for holding pulley

Warning: The basic operations for removing and installing the water pump are described in subsection 3.6.1.1this subsection only covers operations that apply to the 2.3-I-VR5 engine.

Execution order

1. Unscrew the bolts (1) holding the water pump belt pulley (2). Use a special device to prevent the water pump pulley from turning.

2. Unscrew the three bolts and remove the water pump.

3. When installing the water pump, the plug on the pump body must be at the bottom.
