| CAUSE | METHOD OF ELIMINATION |
| The coolant temperature is very high. The control lamp on the instrument cluster is on | |
| Not enough coolant in the cooling system | Check and, if necessary, top up the coolant level. If there is constant loss of coolant, determine and eliminate the cause of the coolant leak |
| The thermostat does not open | Check if the cooling system hoses connected to the radiator are hot. If the hoses are cold, remove them, check for proper operation and, if necessary, replace the thermostat. Alternatively, remove the thermostat. This will allow the engine to warm up to normal operating temperature for a longer time |
| The outer surface of the radiator is dirty | Blow out the radiator with compressed air from the engine compartment |
| Reduced radiator flow due to limescale or rust deposits on the inner surface of the radiator | Replace the radiator |
| The radiator fan is not working | On an electric fan, check that the electrical connectors are securely connected to the temperature sensor and the fan motor. Check the radiator fan motor for proper operation by disconnecting the electrical connector from the temperature sensor and short-circuiting the connector contacts. When the ignition is on, the radiator fan should operate. Otherwise, replace the radiator fan motor |
| The valve in the expansion tank cap is faulty | Check the valve under pressure |
| Coolant temperature gauge is faulty | Check the coolant temperature gauge and sensor for proper operation |
| The water pump is not working | Replace the water pump drive belt |
