Cause | Elimination Method |
The coolant temperature is very high. At the same time, the control lamp on the instrument cluster is lit | |
Not enough coolant in the cooling system | Check and, if necessary, top up the coolant level. If there is a constant loss of coolant, determine and eliminate the cause of the coolant leakage. |
Thermostat won't open | Check if the coolant hoses connected to the radiator get hot. If the hoses are cold, remove, check operation and, if necessary, replace the thermostat. Alternatively, remove the thermostat. The engine will then warm up to normal operating |
The outer surface of the radiator is dirty | Blow out the radiator with compressed air from the side of the engine compartment. |
The patency of the radiator is reduced due to the deposition of limescale or rust on the inner surface of the radiator | Replace radiator. |
Radiator fan not working | Replace the radiator fan viscous drive belt.
On the optional electrically driven fan, check that the electrical connectors at the temperature sensor and fan motor are securely connected. Check the operation of the radiator fan motor by disconnecting the electrical connector from the temperature sensor and shorting the connector contacts. With the ignition on, the radiator fan should be running. Otherwise, replace the radiator fan motor. |
Faulty valve in expansion tank cap | Check pressure valve. |
Faulty coolant temperature gauge | Check up serviceability of the index and the gauge of temperature of a cooling liquid. |
Water pump not working | Replace water pump drive belt. |
