Pic. 385. Two-shaft steering column: 1 - lower bearing; 2 - tubular casing; 3 - upper casing; 4 - combined switch; 5 - a contact ring of a sound signal; 6 - spring; 7 - retaining ring; 8 - lower casing of the column; 9 - steering wheel; 10 - steering wheel nut (40 Nm); 11 - consignment note of the steering wheel; 12 - spring; 13 - cap; 14 - column shaft
Disconnect the battery.
Remove the trim in the middle of the steering wheel.
Loosen the steering wheel nut if necessary to remove the steering wheel. Remove the steering wheel from the steering column. Disconnect the combination switch under the steering wheel.
Disconnect the steering column shaft from the lower shaft (from the cabin side).
Remove the circlip and take out the spring as well as the horn contact ring.
Check that all electrical connections are disconnected and remove the steering column.
Take out a steering column from a tubular casing. At its other end is a spring with a socket. These details must not be lost. If necessary, knock out the lower bearing of the speaker bracket with a long rod. The new bearing is installed from the outside using a piece of pipe of a suitable diameter. The steering column is mounted in the reverse order, according to the following recommendations:
- When inserting the column shaft into the universal joint of the lower shaft, it is necessary to align them so that the clamping bolt can be inserted and tightened with a torque of 30 Nm.
- Place rubber boots on both parts of the speaker and fold the speaker. Squeeze both parts with tongs.
- Install a new retaining ring on the top neck of the column. The ring is upset with a branch pipe until the spring is fully compressed, at the same time both parts of the column are compressed with tongs so that the ring can be inserted into the groove.
