Steering - rack and pinion and safety steering column. Depending on the equipment variant, the vehicles are equipped with mechanical steering or power steering.
In July 1984, the steering shaft was replaced by a single telescopic steering column. The lower part of the column and the lower mount were also changed. Since August 1986 (petrol engine models) the installation of a column with two tubular elements began, which enter one into the other in the event of a frontal collision. The newly designed steering column can be retrofitted to older vehicles.
Since August 1988, a steering wheel with smaller bore slots has been installed on cars. An adapter sleeve must be used to install a steering wheel from a later release to an earlier release.
The steering mechanism is attached to the body with clamps through rubber cushions.
