In new cars, the length of the left rod is not adjustable. If it is replaced, an adjustable tie rod must be installed. The sequence of actions for replacing both steering rods with the steering gear removed is as follows:
Squeeze the ends of the clamp 12 (rice. 383) fixing the rubber boot 15 on the outside and remove the boot from the steering gear housing by moving it along the rod.
Loosen the large lock nut 11 at the end of the rack and unscrew the tie rod.
Loosen the ball joint nut with a wrench.
Set the gear rack to the middle position so that its ends protrude from both sides of the crankcase by the same amount (size «A» in fig. 388).
Screw new tie rods into the ends of the rack (having previously removed their casing), by setting the size «IN» both sides 70.5 mm (pic. 389). Install tie rod length 379mm (see fig. 383), measured between the middle of the pin of the rod end and the end face of the inner hinge of the rod (in the place where the lock nut is adjacent to it). Adjust by turning the tip 4 (rice. 383) outer tie rod joint by first loosening its lock nut.
Tighten the locknuts 11 and put on the rubber boots. Insert the casing clamps into the grooves and lower their ends.
