Replacing the fluid in the power steering (VW Golf 2)

When changing the fluid or installing the steering gear, the system must be filled with ATF Dextron fluid and air must be bled from it. Fluid drained from the system cannot be reused. The filter must also be replaced.

Fill the tank with liquid to the top edge.

Run the engine briefly and turn it off several times. This will fill the entire system with fluid.

In this case, the tank quickly empties, and you should constantly add liquid, otherwise air locks will form in the system.

If the liquid level does not drop, the system can be considered full.

To remove air from the hydraulic drive system, start the engine and vigorously turn the steering wheel from lock to lock.

Check the fluid level in the reservoir and if it drops, immediately top up the fluid. No air bubbles should appear on the surface when turning the steering wheel.
