When installing a new belt, you can do without the marks (see p. 3.7.3). When installing the toothed drive belt, none of the pistons should be in the TDC position, otherwise the valves may hit the pistons. Put the toothed belt on the toothed pulleys of the crankshaft, camshaft and intermediate shaft. When installing the toothed belt, avoid sharp bends. Adjust the tension of the toothed drive belt as follows:

  • use a wrench to turn the hexagon of the tension roller in the direction shown in Fig. 150, thereby tensioning the toothed belt;
  • check the tension of the toothed belt: it is considered normal if in the middle part of the branch between the pulleys of the camshaft and crankshaft the belt twists by 90° (Fig. 150);
  • tighten the tension roller axle mounting nut to 45 Nm;
  • rotate the crankshaft two full revolutions and make sure that the belt tension has not changed;
  • install the upper and lower parts of the timing belt cover and the belt pulleys;
  • adjust the tension of the poly V-belt (see subsection 3.8);

  • tighten by hand and finally tighten bolts 1 and 2 (Fig. 151) securing the engine mount support to the following torques:
    • bolt 1 55 Nm;
    • bolt 2 20 Nm;
  • avoid over-tensioning the timing belt as this will significantly reduce its service life;
  • install the gear wheel (if it was filmed), tighten the mounting bolt (after lubricating it), tighten to a torque of 90 Nm, then turn the bolt another 90°. The engine must be fixed in a stationary position.

Note: When installing the crankshaft gear, the bolt that secures it must be replaced with a new one.
