External inspection for leaks:
- master cylinder, slave cylinder, pipe and hose line, filler hose, connections (plug and thread) in all places, including hidden ones.
Signs of external leakage, among other things, are traces of leaks, for example, on the noise-insulating casing under the gearbox.
Check the laying of the pipe and hose lines (check the fasteners of the highways). The pipe and hose line must not be kinked or pinched.
The return of the pedal should not be interfered with by shifted or additional mats.
Press the pedal. At the same time, throughout the entire pedal stroke, hold the pedal in 5 different places for approximately 20 seconds (testing the hydraulic system at different pressures). In this case, the assistant must check for leaks in the places indicated in point 2.
Remove the slave cylinder and check the seal for resistance to brake fluid.
If checking all points does not reveal any problems and there is a conclusion on point 6, replace the slave cylinder.
Note: On gearboxes where the slave cylinder is made as a single unit with the release bearing, the gearbox must be removed.
