Radial and lateral runout occurs due to imprecise rotation of the disc and tire.

100% rotation accuracy is not possible due to technical features.

Therefore, the manufacturer allows a clearly defined tolerance for these parts.

If the wheel and tire are mounted in an unfavorable position, this may result in the maximum allowable tolerance for the wheel and tire being exceeded.

Table 4.3 shows the maximum tolerance values for a rim with a mounted tyre.

Checking the radial and lateral runout of a rim with a tire using a dial indicator for VAG 1435 tires

Lateral runout test

Pre-tension the tire dial indicator approximately 2mm.

Fig. 4.15. Checking lateral runout

Fig. 4.15. Checking lateral runout

Place the indicator against the sidewall of the tire (Fig. 4.15).

Spin the wheel slowly.

Record the minimum and maximum deflection of the arrow.

Note: If the difference is greater than 1.3 mm, the lateral runout is considered excessive.

Note: In this case, you can reduce it by minimizing.

Note: Deviations of the indicator needle due to small irregularities in the rubber should not be taken into account.

Checking the radial runout

Fig. 4.16. Checking the radial runout

Fig. 4.16. Checking the radial runout

Pre-tension the tire dial indicator by approximately 2 mm (Fig. 4.16).

Place the indicator against the tire tread.

Spin the wheel slowly.

Record the minimum and maximum deflection of the arrow.

Note: If the difference is more than 1 mm, the radial runout is considered to be exceeded.

Note: In this case, you can reduce it by minimizing

Checking the radial and lateral runout of the wheel

Fig. 4.17. Radial and lateral runout test diagram

Fig. 4.17. Radial and lateral runout test diagram

Place the wheel on the balancing stand.

Use the collet self-expanding adapter for the VAS 5271 balancing stands.

Pre-tension the tire dial indicator approximately 2mm.

Spin the wheel slowly.

Record the minimum and maximum deflection of the arrow.

S – Lateral runout.

H – Radial runout.

Compare the obtained value with the nominal parameters in Table 4.4.

Note: Deviations of the indicator needle due to small irregularities in the rubber should not be taken into account.

The article is posted on the portal VWmanual.ru

Note: If the measured value exceeds the nominal value, normal running smoothness cannot be achieved.
