Assembling the primary shaft (VW Passat B4)

Install the 3rd gear pinion on the primary shaft with the flange facing the retaining ring. Install the retaining ring. Press the 4th gear pinion onto the primary shaft with the flange facing the retaining ring. Press the inner races of the roller bearings onto the shaft with a press. Install the thrust washer and press on the 5th gear pinion needle bearing sleeve. Press the outer races of the bearings into the clutch housing and gearbox housing seats with a press, installing an adjusting ring under the outer race of the rear bearing.
