Replacing the bearings of the reverse intermediate gear axle (VW Passat B4)

Note: Each time the reverse idler gear shaft is removed, replace the bearings and snap ring with new ones.

Using a puller with internal jaws, press the needle bearing of the reverse intermediate gear axle out of the clutch housing socket. This will destroy the bearing. Press a new bearing into the clutch housing socket using a suitable mandrel.

Using a press, press the needle bearing of the intermediate reverse gear axle out of the bracket. This will destroy the bearing. Using a mandrel of the required size, press a new bearing into the bracket.
