Determining the thickness of the adjusting ring of the primary shaft bearings (VW Passat B4)

Using an indicator, check the axial movement of the primary shaft (table 4-4), then measure the moment of resistance to rotation of the primary shaft bearings, which should be no more than 0.2 kgf·m, as is done on the secondary shaft (Fig. 4-24), and select the thickness of the adjusting ring.

Note: The selection of the adjusting ring is considered correct if the primary shaft rotates freely, has no axial clearance, but has a noticeable radial clearance.
