Replacing the secondary shaft seal ring (VW Touareg 1)

Removal

Remove the transfer case.

To remove the sealing ring, screw a self-tapping screw with a diameter of about 4 mm into the sealing ring.

Tighten the screw so that it is clamped between the sealing ring and the metal body.

Do not screw the screw in too deeply to avoid damaging the bearing underneath.


Remove the sealing ring using the T10055 puller (Fig. 3.67).

Installation

Lubricate the new sealing ring with ATF oil, especially carefully - the working edges of the sealing ring.

First install the T10180 bushing on the secondary shaft so as not to damage the sealing ring.

Then press the new sealing ring using the T10180 mandrel until it stops. Be careful not to distort the sealing ring (Fig. 3.68).



Then check the ATF oil level and top up the oil.
