Checking the toothed belt tension
Since incorrectly performed work can lead to significant engine damage, attention must be paid to the precise execution of work operations. The toothed belt should only be replaced when it is in poor condition. Checking the tension and replacing the toothed belt see above in this chapter.
Checking the condition of the toothed belt
It is necessary to check the condition of the toothed belt every 30,000 km.
Remove the toothed belt cover and turn the engine crankshaft slowly by hand, see above in this chapter.
Perform a visual inspection of the timing belt. Pay special attention to the following damage:
- A - cracks on the outer surface of the belt
- B - side wear
- C - fringing
- D - cracks at the base of the teeth
Replace toothed belt if necessary. In addition, establish the causes of damage and eliminate them.
