Checking the semi-automatic timing belt tensioner roller (VW Caddy 3)

Mounting position:

• The retainer (arrow) of the roller must enter the recess on the cylinder head.

Verification procedure

Set the crankshaft to the TDC position of the first cylinder.

Press firmly on the belt with your thumb. The arrow (2) should move.

After releasing pressure on the belt, turn the crankshaft two revolutions in the direction of engine rotation and again set it to the position corresponding to TDC of the first cylinder. The last 45° (1/8 turn) the crankshaft should rotate without stopping (increase in effort),

The tension roller must return to its original position (the mark (1) and arrow (2) must align).
