Adjusting the throttle control cable

As a result of this adjustment, the throttle valve should be in the closed position when the accelerator pedal is released, and the gear shift control lever should be in the stop position.

Warm up the engine to operating temperature (before opening the air damper on cars with carburetor engines).

Leave the engine running at idle speed.

Loosen the throttle control cable adjusting sleeve. On cars with carburettor engines, move the gear shift control lever all the way. On cars with fuel injection engines, move the intermediate gear shift control lever all the way.

On vehicles with fuel injected engines, disconnect the intermediate throttle control rods.

On vehicles with carburetor engines, loosen the throttle control cable.

Adjust the length of the intermediate rods or throttle control cable so that when the throttle valve is closed, the gear shift control lever or intermediate gear shift control lever is in the stop position and does not have much free play.

Adjust the length of the throttle control cable to select the free play of the lever.

Checking the Throttle Control Cable Adjustment

When the engine is warm and idling, the length of the throttle control cable should only provide enough free play in the gear shift control mechanism.

Press the accelerator pedal to the intermediate stop (the "full throttle" position of the pedal) and check the position of the throttle valve.

Press the accelerator pedal all the way down and check how much the throttle control cable length increases. On cars with carburetor engines, the cable extension is measured at the point where the cable is attached to the throttle control lever and should not exceed 8 mm. On cars with a fuel injection engine, it is measured at the intermediate throttle control rod and should not exceed 10.5 mm.

Adjusting the gear shift control mechanism

Set the selector lever to position "P".

Loosen the selector cable clamp nut on the selector lever.

Pull the gear shift control lever to the stop corresponding to the "P" position of the selector lever.

Tighten the clamp nut after tensioning the cable.

Check that gear shifting is correct in accordance with the selector lever positions.

Adjusting the 2nd gear band brake

Make sure that the automatic transmission is in a strictly horizontal position.

Loosen the lock nut and brake adjusting bolt.

Apply sealant to the thread of the adjusting bolt and tighten it to a torque of 1.0 kgf·m.

Unscrew the bolt again and tighten it to a torque of 0.5 kgf·m.

Loosen the adjusting bolt exactly 2½ turns and tighten the lock nut.

Loosen the adjusting bolt exactly 2½ turns and tighten the lock nut.
