External door handle — removal and installation (VW Golf 5)

Removal

1. Remove the lock cylinder.

2. Use a screwdriver to pry up and remove retainer 1 from the door handle (see illustration).



3. Pull handle 2 in the direction of arrow 3 and remove it (see illustration 67.2).

Installation

4. Insert special tool VWT10118 (see 1 in the illustration) into the hole on the end side of the door (see arrow A) and secure the spring 2 (see arrow B).

Caution: When performing this operation, illuminate the cavity with an electric torch.

5. Pull the special tool in the direction of arrow C (see illustration 67.4) and secure the spring to the door lock drive levers. This is how the lock is fixed and locked.

6. Replace the door handle.



7. Pull the lock 1 into the hole on the handle and lock the handle 2 (see illustration 67.2), putting pressure on her.

Attention! When installing the retainer in place, do not allow the drive lever 3 to move (see illustration 67.2).

8. Install the lock switch (cylinder) back into place.

9. Check the functioning of the lock mechanism without closing the door itself.
