On front-wheel drive vehicles, APS prevents the drive wheels from spinning during hard accelerations by automatically reducing the power developed by the engine. At all speeds, the APS works in conjunction with the ABS. When the ABS fails, the operation of the APS is also disrupted.
APS turns on automatically after starting the engine. If necessary, by pressing a key, this system can be switched off and on again.
When the system is off, the ASR warning lamp lights up.
Normally APS is always on. Only in certain exceptional cases, when wheel spin is desired, is it preferable to switch the system off, for example:
- when driving with snow chains;
- when driving in deep snow or on loose ground;
- when rocking a stuck vehicle.
After overcoming such sections, it is necessary to turn on the traction control system again.
To ensure trouble-free operation of the APS, it is necessary that all wheels are dressed in the same tires. Different tire break-in paths can lead to an undesirable reduction in engine power.
Warning: Driving style must always be in accordance with road and traffic conditions. The increased safety achieved by this traction control system should not be a reason for risky driving!
Thanks to the traction control system, under adverse road conditions, it is significantly easier or even possible to start the car from a place, accelerate the car, and overcome steep slopes.
