Drive shafts of new cars «Golf» differ for vehicles with engine power from 48 to 55 kW, namely: for vehicles «Golf» with engines with a volume of 2 and 2.8 liters, shafts are provided in which the gears for the constant velocity joint are 4 mm longer.
In addition, the diameter of the outer CV joint of these shafts is 90 mm. For less powerful engines, with a power of less than 55 kW, this diameter is 81 mm. The same applies to the internal constant velocity joints, the diameter of which is 94 mm for engines with a power of 48 kW, and both other models - 100 mm.
The wiring diagrams of both designs of the considered car shafts are shown «Volkswagen Golf». The top shaft is applied together with powerful engines. The vibration damper should have been mentioned. It must be removed and installed in accordance with the instructions given in section «Removal and installation of shock absorber», if the drive shaft needs to be replaced with a new one.
The inner CV joint must not be repaired. If damaged, it must be replaced with a new one.
In models with powerful engines, the diameter of the outer constant velocity joint, as already mentioned, is 100 mm. Keep this in mind when ordering.
