Thoroughly clean the cylinder head sealing surfaces and the cylinder block and check for warping of the head surface. To do this, place a measuring ruler on the head and use a thickness gauge to determine the size of the light gap along, across and diagonally across the surface of the block head. If a plate gauge thicker than 0.1 mm can be inserted into the gap, the cylinder head should be flat ground. If there is a large gap anywhere on the head, it should be replaced.
