For a turbodiesel with a power of 55 kW, an automatic glow time control device (1) attached to an additional adapter in the upper half of the central unit On plug N12, the glow plug relay is located here (2).
Test conditions: Glow plug relay OK: Check it (see previous section). The driver's door must not be opened during and before the test, as the contact switch in the door also stops the glowing process and, as a result, the measurement results are distorted.
Unscrew the red/white cable from the fuse strip to the spark plug on the fuse box and set aside.
Connect the control paw to the red-white wire still attached to the fuse.
Connect the free wire of the test lamp to ground.
Disconnect the connector for the temperature sensor at the front of the radiator hose connection on the cylinder head. Leave the plug hanging.
Turn the ignition key to position «pre-glow» and observe the control lamp: it should burn for about 9 seconds until the indicator lamp on the instrument panel goes out.
After that, it burns for about 10 seconds. (ready to launch).
Turn the ignition key back to position «turned off» and then back to position «pre-glow».
After the glow plug indicator goes out, start the engine and let it idle. After starting the engine, the control lamp should burn for about 180 seconds (subsequent incandescences).
Another check: turn the ignition key to position «turned off» and then to position «pre-glow».
In the removed temperature sensor plug, extend the contact of the blue-white wire and connect it to ground.
The control lamp should go out immediately.
Works as described above; control unit and wires are in order. If, despite this, incorrect operation of the pre-glow system is detected, the temperature sensor may be faulty (verification is described in the next section).
It does not work as described above: remove the left lower trim of the instrument panel. Check the wires according to the wiring diagram. If they are OK, then replace the automatic glow time control.
