All engines
If the engine is so warm that it can start without pre-glow, the pre-glow indicator lamp will of course not come on. With a cold engine, it should light up when the ignition key is turned to the first position. With a 55 kW turbodiesel, however, there is a condition that after opening the driver's door the glowing process does not end.
The pre-glow indicator light can also be checked in the installed state.
Suction diesel 47 kW: Pull the glow plug out of the N12 plug of the central unit.
Connect terminal 9 in the relay plug to ground using an auxiliary wire.
55 kW turbodiesel: Remove left lower instrument panel trim.
Remove the automatic glow time control from the plugs 15 and 16 at the top of the central unit and connect terminal 11 in the relay plug to ground using the auxiliary wire.
All engines: Turn the ignition key to position «pre-glow»: the pre-glow control lamp must light up, otherwise its wires or the lamp itself are faulty (replacement - see chapter «Tools and devices»).
If the lamp now lights up, whereas before this did not happen with the pre-glow relays or the control device installed, then. it is possible that the relay or control device is faulty. Check them out. as described in the previous section.
If the indicator light shows too long or too short pre-glow time, then it is possible that the reason for this is a faulty coolant temperature sensor.
