Remove ring 17 of the synchronizer. Use pliers to remove the retaining ring 14 at the synchronizer hub, as shown in Fig. 291.
Remove the shaft from the synchronizer hub and remove the synchronizer ring and gear 9 of the 3rd gear with needle bearing 8.
If it is necessary to disassemble the synchronizer clutch, first mark the hub and its sleeve with paint on one side if these parts are not replaced. The position of the cracker grooves does not matter, but it is important which side the parts are inserted into. Slide the bushing off the hub and remove the springs and three crackers. If necessary, replace the hub and bushing assembly.
