Drain the gearbox oil. Insert a rod into one of the holes in the drive shaft flange and rest it against the edge of the housing (pic. 279). A flange blocked in this way will not rotate. Using a wrench, unscrew the long bolt located inside the flange.
Bringing two mounts under the flange, remove the axle drive shaft from the gearbox housing (pic. 280). Do the same with the second flange, paying attention to the fact that the drive shafts of the axle shafts have different lengths and are marked accordingly. The left shaft is shorter and has a milled groove. Under no circumstances should the shafts be interchanged. It should also be remembered that in 1986 the design of the flanges was changed to use new mounting bolts. Previously conventional hex head bolts were used, but since 1986 pan head bolts with a hex key hole have been used.
Loosen the bolts securing the gearbox housing halves.
Separate the halves, helping yourself with blows of a rubber mallet.
Remove the final drive assembly.
