Disassembling the gearbox (VW Caddy 3)

1. Drain the transmission oil.

2. Remove the clutch release lever (A), release bearing and guide sleeve (arrows).

3. Unscrew the fastening screw of the right flange shaft (B).

4. Remove the right shaft with flange together with the spring, thrust washer and conical ring.



5. Unscrew the gearbox housing cover (arrow) and carefully remove it.



6. Remove the 5th gear rotation axis (1) (2) and remove the 5th gear engagement fork.

7. Remove the retaining ring (3) of the transmission clutch hub.

3. Remove the gear engagement clutch hub, synchronizer clutch with synchronizer locking ring and needle bearing from the secondary shaft.

9. Remove the lock washer (4) from the 5th gear and remove the gear itself.

10. Unscrew the mounting screws (A) of the bracket.

11. Unscrew the hex nut (B) securing the gear shift mechanism.

12. Unscrew the fastening screw of the left shaft with flange (C).

13. Remove the left shaft with flange together with the spring.

14. Unscrew and carefully remove the clutch housing from the gearbox housing using a lever.



15. Remove the differential (A) from the gearbox housing.



16. Remove the oil catch can (A), oil guide (B) and magnet from the gearbox housing.



17. To remove the gear selection and engagement mechanism (A), set it to neutral position and unscrew the screws (arrows).


18. Remove the pivot pins (B) located on the bottom of the gearbox.

19. Remove the reverse light switch (C).



20. Remove the screw (A) securing the reverse gear shaft.

21. Remove the pivot pins (B) located on the top side of the gearbox.

22. Do not remove the cover (arrow) when disassembling the gearbox.



23. Remove the primary and secondary shafts with the bracket, the engagement mechanism (forks) and the reverse gear together.

24. Remove the primary and secondary shafts from the bracket with the radial ball bearing.
