Disassembling the generator (VW Golf 2)

1. Remove the ground wire from the battery.

2. Make pulley 4 stationary, unscrew nut 1 and remove spring washer 2 and spacer ring 3.

3. Pull the pulley off the shaft.

4. Remove washer 6, fan 7 and remove the tongue from the rotor chamber.

5. Unscrew the voltage regulator with the brush holder.

6. Mark the relative positions of the front cover of the stator winding housing and the rear cover.

7. Unscrew the four mounting bolts (on the generator circuit).

8. Remove the front cover 9 with bearing 10.

9. Unscrew the bolts of plate 11 securing the bearing and remove the ball bearing from the front cover.

10. Remove seal 8.

11. Unscrew the bolts securing the plate with the diodes and remove the plate.

12. Remove the rear cover 16 from the rotor shaft.
