Description of the rear suspension design (VW Golf 1)

The rear axle is really an axle. It is made of one profile. It is movable. The T-shaped cross member made of spring steel is the core of the axle. Tubular longitudinal suspension arms are welded to it on the right and left. At the back (in the direction of movement) they hold the shock absorber support. The wheel journal is attached to the support on the side.

The Jetta model has an additional stabilizer at the rear axle. Thanks to the stabilization when passing a curved trajectory and body roll, the internal (relative to the curve) the wheel is less loaded, and the spring of the outer wheel is compressed more strongly. As a result, the stabilizer bends. Trying to straighten, it helps to level the body. The Golf model does not have a stabilizer, since the axle, made of spring steel, has a sufficient stabilizing effect.

The connection between the rear axle and the body is carried out on both sides by supports with rubber-metal silent blocks (in front, near the trailing arms of the suspension, if you look in the direction of travel).
