Absolutely flat horizontal surface.

Empty vehicle weight (with spare tire).

Prescribed tire pressure.

Correctly installed springs.

No unacceptable play in the steering rods.

Absence of unacceptable play in the wheel suspension.

Examination



Place the front wheels straight ahead.

Place the template in front of the front wheels.

(44-123) Place the measuring pins of the template in front of the rim edges of both front wheels. Set the indicator scale to "0" and mark the measurement location on the wheel with chalk.

Adjustment


(44-117) set the steering gear to the middle position. To do this, rotate the steering wheel from lock to lock and count the revolutions. Then rotate the steering wheel in the opposite direction to half the revolutions. Using the protrusion on the rubber washer and the slots in the casing, precisely align the steering shaft. (44-119) Loosen the lock nut, tighten both tie rods until the nominal value is reached. The nominal values are given in the table below.

Caution: The steering wheel must remain in the center position.


After re-tightening the transverse steering rods, make sure that the bellows are in the normal position to prevent their rapid wear.

Roll the vehicle forward or conduct a road test. The steering should be in the middle position. If necessary, turn both tie rods again until the steering remains in the middle position.
