Work order
Remove the engine and gearbox.
Remove the fuel pump and tandem pump from the cylinder heads.
Remove the soundproofing and casings from the cylinder heads.
Remove a soundproof cover and a cover of a head of the block of cylinders.
Rotate the engine with T10172 until at least one camshaft stop is in place.
Install a T10199 jig on the fixed camshaft gear and tighten the camshaft gear bolt. The gear is now free to rotate on the camshaft (rice. 2.197).
If only one camshaft stop was installed:
Rotate the engine shaft with counterhold T10172 until the camshaft retainer for the other cylinder bank is installed.
Install jig T10199 on the camshaft gear and remove the gear bolt. The gear is now free to rotate on the camshaft.
Remove the vibration damper. Use counterhold T10172 with screws T10172/1.
Screw the T10195 crankshaft stopper to the end of the crankshaft. When doing so, pay attention to the position of the dowel pin (pic. 2.199).
After that, carefully rotate the crankshaft until the protrusion of the crankshaft stop T10195 falls into the calibration holes.
Install clamp T10199/1 as shown in Figure 2.199, and tighten the clamping bolts of the tool with a torque of 70 Nm.
Install torque wrench (40-200 Nm) VA G 1332 into the square of the clamping tool and press with a force of 80 Nm against the direction of rotation of the motor shaft in order to eliminate the gear backlash (pic. 2.200).
Bank 1: in the direction of the arrow.
Bank 2: against the direction of the arrow.
Without releasing pressure, tighten the camshaft gear mounting bolts using a T10198 end socket to 50 Nm.
Remove jig T10199/1.
Install jig - T10199 on the camshaft gear.
NOTE: Make sure jig T10199 is securely seated on cylinder head. Tighten the clamp bolts T10199 to 40 Nm. Then tighten the camshaft gear with a T10198 socket. Tightening torque: 150 Nm + tighten 1/4 turn (90°).
NOTE: Remove jig T10199.
NOTE: Remove stoppers from camshafts and crankshafts. Make two revolutions of the crankshaft in the direction of rotation of the engine shaft until the crankshaft is again in the dead center position of the first cylinder. Use the camshaft and crankshaft stoppers at the same time.
