Work execution procedure

Remove the engine and gearbox.

Remove the fuel pump and tandem pump from the cylinder heads.

Remove the sound insulation and covers from the cylinder heads.

Remove the soundproof cover and cylinder head cover.

Rotate the engine using the T10172 counter support until at least one camshaft stopper is installed.

Install the T10199 clamping device on the fixed camshaft gear and tighten the camshaft gear bolt. The gear will now rotate freely on the camshaft (fig. 2.197).

If only one camshaft stopper was installed:

Rotate the engine shaft using the T10172 counter support until the camshaft lock of the other cylinder bank is installed.

Install the T10199 clamping device on the camshaft gear and remove the gear bolt. The gear will now rotate freely on the camshaft.

Remove the torsional vibration damper. Use the T10172 counter support with the T10172/1 bolts.

Screw the T10195 crankshaft stopper to the end of the crankshaft. While doing this, pay attention to the position of the installation pin (fig. 2.199).

Screw the T10195 crankshaft stopper to the end of the crankshaft. While doing this, pay attention…

After this, carefully rotate the crankshaft until the T10195 crankshaft stopper protrusion enters the calibration holes.

Install the T10199/1 clamp as shown in Figure 2.199 and tighten the tool clamping bolts to a torque of 70 Nm.

Insert the torque wrench (40-200 Nm) VA G 1332 into the square of the clamping tool and press with a force of 80 Nm against the direction of rotation of the motor shaft in order to eliminate the play of the gear transmission (fig. 2.200).

Insert the torque wrench (40-200 Nm) VA G 1332 into the square of the clamping tool and press with…

Cylinder bank 1: in the direction of the arrow.

Row of cylinders 2: against the direction of the arrow.

Without releasing the pressure, tighten the camshaft gear mounting bolts using the T10198 socket wrench to a torque of 50 Nm.

Remove clamping device T10199/1.

Install the clamping device - T10199 on the camshaft gear.

NOTE: Make sure that the T10199 clamp is securely seated on the cylinder head. Tighten the T10199 clamp bolts to 40 Nm. Then tighten the camshaft gear using the T10198 socket wrench. Tightening torque: 150 Nm + 1/4 turn (90°) further.

NOTE: Remove clamping fixture T10199.

NOTE: Remove the camshaft and crankshaft stoppers. Turn the crankshaft two times in the direction of engine rotation until the crankshaft is again at the No.1 cylinder dead center position. Use the camshaft and crankshaft stoppers simultaneously.
