Replacing valve stem seals (VW Touareg 1)

NOTE: With cylinder head installed.


Remove the camshaft.

Remove the valve tappets and place them face down. Do not interchange the tappets.

Move the piston of the corresponding cylinder to the TDC position.

Install valve mounting fixture 2036 and install support using spacer bolts (fig. 2.220).

Remove the valve springs using the VW 541/1A valve spring remover and the VW 541/5 mandrel.

NOTE: The valves rest on the bottom of the piston.


Pull off the valve stem seals using the 3047A puller (fig. 2.221).

Installation



Place the plastic cover A included in the repair kit onto the corresponding valve stem (fig. 2.222). This helps to avoid damage to the new valve stem seal B.

Install the new valve stem seal into the 3129 drift.



Lubricate the working lip of the valve stem seal and carefully install it onto the valve guide.

Install the camshaft.
