Removal the transfer case (vehicles with a turbocharged diesel engine) (VW Tiguan 1)

Remove the noise-insulating casing under the power unit. Remove the right drive shaft. Mark the relative positions of the elastic coupling of the rear axle drive shaft and the flange of the transfer case shaft with color marks. Unscrew the rear axle drive shaft from the transfer case "arrows". Move the front part of the rear axle drive shaft all the way back. Place a rag on the subframe to avoid damaging the paintwork of the rear axle drive shaft when lowering it onto the subframe. Place the rear axle drive shaft on the subframe.

Unscrew the lower support of the power unit from the gearbox. To do this, unscrew bolts "1" and "2". Press the power unit towards the front of the car, support it in this position using the lower support of the power unit, as shown in the figure.

"A" = flange bolt M10x35.

If present, remove the drive shaft heat shield from the transfer case (nuts -1-). Remove the engine casing.

Unscrew the diesel particulate filter "A" from the "arrow" engine from above.

Unscrew the particulate filter "A" from the engine from below. Unscrew bolts "1" and "2" securing the bracket to the engine and transfer case.

Press the diesel particulate filter "A" upwards and, turning the "arrow", remove the bracket.

Remove the retaining ring "arrow A" and the sealing ring "arrow B" of the right splined axle shaft.

Remove the screw securing the right axle shaft.

Unscrew the upper bolts "arrows" securing the transfer case to the gearbox.

Loosen the lower bolts "arrows" securing the transfer case to the gearbox, carefully push the transfer case away from the gearbox and remove the transfer case from the vehicle.
